The news feed of
International Paper (IP) is filled with significant business activities. One of the major undertakings includes the sale of the
Global Cellulose Fibers Business to
American Industrial Partners for $1.5 billion. Furthermore, a series of facility closures are being implemented across
North America, including two Georgian containerboard mills, mold fiber facilities, and five key packaging sites in the UK. Meanwhile, the restructuring strategy includes the expansion of the containerboard production and a potential establishment of a
new sustainable packaging facility in Salt Lake City, Utah. Additionally, the company has sold its five European Plants to
PALM Group to meet regulatory commitments from the acquisition of
DS Smith Plc. The successive yet massive changes have led to over 1,000 layoffs. Nevertheless, leadership changes are observed too, along with a strong turnaround post these changes. The future of IP is eyed on mill improvements and the exploration of new partnerships like that with
Kraton.
