Moderna has won a massive
government contract to develop a pandemic flu vaccine. The unprecedented $176 million funding from
US Government signifies a strategic public-private partnership to develop a
mRNA-based bird flu vaccine in response to escalating fears of a possible pandemic. The funding has been awarded by
BARDA and is aimed to expedite the progress of the
influenza vaccine which uses the same groundbreaking
mRNA technology as Moderna's Covid-19 vaccine. Additional to this, Moderna's joint flu and Covid-19 vaccine has advanced through significant testing stages. However, the company faced a slight setback as their shares took a hit following an unexpected development regarding their
RSV vaccine. Additionally, Pfizer and Moderna continue their legal squabble over Covid-19 vaccine patents in the UK market. On a positive note, Moderna has successfully commenced its phase three trials for a
personalized cancer treatment, while showing promising efficacy of their vaccines for devastating childhood diseases and even for certain types of head and neck cancer.
