Deep work block: how to prepare in 90 seconds

Focused work is getting rare. Notifications, chats and the urge to check the phone break concentration again and again. A short ritual at the start of a work block tells your brain: now we focus.

What happens in your body and mind

Switching tasks costs energy and makes it hard to reach a state of flow. Slow, even breathing settles the mind, and a short visualization of what you will finish in the next block gives your attention a clear target.

Your 90-second routine with Jasmin

1. Arrive, 30 seconds. Breathe with Jasmin: Inhale 4s · hold 4s · exhale 4s · hold 4s. The first half of the video plays while you breathe in, the second half while you breathe out. The FLOW line shows you when to breathe, and the music follows your breath.

2. Visualize, 45 seconds. Five short scenes walk you through your deep work block:

  1. Picture your workspace for your deep work block. One task. Everything else is closed.
  2. See your hands start the first small step — the easiest one.
  3. A distraction pulls. You notice it, exhale, and return to the task.
  4. Feel the moment the work starts to flow. Time slips by.
  5. See the end: the work is done and you feel quietly proud.

3. Anchor, 15 seconds. Tap the desk twice. Say quietly: “Now.” Use the same gesture later, in the real moment, with one long exhale.

Why it works

Mental rehearsal, picturing a situation step by step before it happens, uses many of the same brain networks as the real action. Athletes, musicians and surgeons use it to prepare. Slow breathing with a longer exhale shifts the body towards its calming, parasympathetic side. AHΞHA puts both into one short routine you can repeat whenever you need it. Read the research.
