Difficult conversation: the 90-second preparation
A 90-second ritual to prepare for the difficult conversation: breathe with a coach, rehearse the moment in your mind, and set an anchor you can recall on the spot.
1 · Arrive — 30 seconds
Breathe with Jenn using the Anxiety pattern: Inhale 4s · hold 1s · exhale 6s. The coach video and the music follow every inhale and exhale, so you do not have to count.
2 · Rehearse — 45 seconds
- Picture where the difficult conversation will happen, and the person in front of you.
- Hear your opening sentence — simple, kind and clear.
- They react strongly. You feel it, exhale, and stay with what matters.
- You listen fully before you answer. Your voice stays low and steady.
- See the end: whatever the outcome, you were honest and respectful.
3 · Anchor — 15 seconds
Place one hand on your chest. Say quietly: “Steady.” In the real moment, repeat the gesture and one long exhale to recall the prepared state.
Afterwards — the check-in
AHΞHA asks you later how it went: worse, as expected, or better. Your answers build your personal proof record.
Why mental rehearsal
Athletes, surgeons and musicians have used imagery for decades: vividly imagining an action engages many of the same brain networks as doing it, and slow exhales shift the body toward its calming (parasympathetic) branch. AHΞHA packs both into one short, repeatable ritual. It is a preparation tool, not a medical treatment.
