Despite turbulence, Southwest Airlines LUV pushes forward amid investor scrutiny

Southwest Airlines Co. (LUV) has seen considerable fluctuation. Despite its attempts to establish nonstop services between Washington and other destinations, and mixed results including such as record revenues, it's also reported net losses and experienced issues with rising expenses. The company has been grappling with the impact of Boeing airplane delays, which have led to growth plans being cut and predicted to last till 2025. It's been reported that this airliner's stock has significantly declined, with reported three-year losses reaching 52%. Nevertheless, Southwest Airlines still caries meaningful institutional backing, owning up to 80% of the company. The firm's future performance, however, is being clouded by labor front issues and forthcoming decisions such as possibly ending open seating. Failure to meet Q1 2024 earnings and revenue expectations has kept LUV's status in the market under scrutiny. Jefferies, however, recently upgraded Southwest's rating.
